Operations Manager, Barrie Ontario

This position is responsible for the safe and profitable operation of the Insulated Glass Fabrication portions of Vitro Architectural Glass operations. These responsibilities include managing the fabrication and delivery of flat glass products and, along with supporting staff, overseeing all aspects of operations and production control.

The incumbent ensures that the facility is in compliance with all aspects of Vitro’s Environment, Health and Safety requirements to ensure a safe and environmentally sound workplace.

The incumbent is responsible for delivering maximum operational efficiency and lowest possible cost, and making sure that spending is within budget, while meeting customer quality and delivery requirements.

• Provide the leadership, guidance and resources to achieve and maintain site compliance with all aspects of Vitro’s Environmental, Health and Safety requirements to ensure a safe and healthy work environment that prevents work-related accidents, illnesses and/or injuries.
• Provide monthly safety and environmental reports.
• Schedule and maintain truck repairs, mileage reports, inspections, and renewals.
• Schedule safety and production inspections and training.
• Ordering of Personal Protective Equipment for the facility.
• Responsible for employee hiring, promoting, demoting, disciplinary, and terminations.
• Schedule maintenance for equipment or building services.
• Order and maintain stock for the plant.
• Schedule waste and cullet bin ordering and pickup.
• Utilize planning, control and just-in-time concepts to ensure products are produced, packaged, and shipped in time to meet daily customer demands.
• Manage the Capital Spending Plan for the facility.
• Utilize Lean, 5S, and good housekeeping practices to ensure efficient flow and minimum waste.
• Champion cost control to ensure plant spending remains at or below established budget level.
• Collect and Maintain all Vitro owned and leased vehicle insurance, driver information and driver class.
• Handle new or replacement vehicles for all branches.
• Maintain monthly hours worked and mileage for all branches.
• Purchase and supply Halifax facility with specific items needed for operations, and supply other parts to all the other Canadian branches.
• Handling the Argon supply agreement for all branches.

• Bachelors Degree in Business, Management or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Computer proficiency is mandatory and the incumbent must have excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.
• A minimum of ten years experience in a key leadership role in a manufacturing environment is required and experience in flat glass distribution and insulated glass production is highly desirable.
• A strong background in Lean, 5S and Continuous Improvement is highly desirable.
• The incumbent must have excellent organizational, managerial and interpersonal skills to make appropriate operating judgements involving safety, technical, engineering, financial, and human resource aspects of the operation.
