Overview

 

 

The basic function of the Engineer, Maintenance Mechanical is to assist the Engineering & Maintenance Department and the plant as a whole to ensure that sound and safe engineering principles are used in the areas of design, installations, fabrication, start-up and modification of equipment and to conduct maintenance activities such as troubleshooting, set-up of critical spare parts, support of training programs and ensure jobs are performed in accordance with Vitro standards.

 

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads by example and follows all applicable rules and regulations
  • Uses AutoCAD and SolidWorks to create and modify drawings
  • Assists in troubleshooting and repair of equipment issues
  • Designs, prepares specifications and drawings, coordinates installation, prepares operational and preventative maintenance documentation and places appropriate equipment and quantities into storeroom spare inventory for assigned capital projects and plant improvements
  • Prepares cost estimates and timelines for assigned jobs and projects
  • Acts as a SME for assigned equipment
  • Works with internal customers to meet/exceed customer expectations
  • Works with vendors to find solutions to improve reliability of equipment and helps find lower cost alternatives
  • Works with Maintenance Planner to ensure that jobs/projects are assigned to maintenance or contractors as needed to meet deadlines
  • Assist in others tasks as assigned
  • Makes recommendations and at times decisions on selection of equipment for new installations and modifications to existing equipment
  • Critical decision making in times of unplanned events/plant emergencies

 

Qualifications

JOB RELATED KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, COURSES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

 

The incumbent must have good working knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic and building systems, including but not limited to HVAC, compressed air systems, utility systems and water treatment process. 

Knowledge and experience using CAD programs including AutoCAD and SolidWorks.

A thorough understanding of raw material handling including conveyors, material elevators and associated equipment.  Understanding of electrical systems and equipment such as motors, motor control centers, transformers, switchgears, control equipment, process instrumentation.

Knowledge of manufacturing operations including product and employee safety, OSHA standards.  Strong leadership, customer service, project management and organization skills are essential to effectively complete job responsibilities. 

Experience managing projects with an ability to multi task and work with other departments as a team

In addition to prime success factors - attention to detail, effective communications, ability to plan and organize, work well under pressure and lead and inspire others

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a preference of four or more years of proven experience.  The incumbent must have and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and sound technical judgment.   Knowledge of human relations and ability to work with all levels of plant supervision is essential.
