This position is responsible for supervising an assigned area of shift associates and for training and developing them in production methods and plant procedures to achieve plant and company goals for safety, quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. The incumbent supports the plant focus on continuous improvement to meet the requirements of both internal and external customers. This position also assumes the role of Senior Production Supervisor in his/her absence.
This position works the 12-hour rotation. We have openings on the daylight (6:00a-6:00p) shift as well as the night (6:00p-6:00a) shift.
1. Supervise and coach assigned associates, dealing with areas of conflict and resolving problems to reduce conflict and ensure an environment of teamwork, respect and courtesy; maintain appropriate staffing levels and participate in recruiting and selection activities.
2. Direct the work activities of associates and assign tasks to ensure that the area or department achieves targeted production goals and costs and meets customer requirements.
3. Provide a safe work environment by ensuring safety training and communication take place; Respond to and address safety concerns raised by employees and ensure that safe work practices are followed so that company and plant targeted safety goals are met; this includes enforcement of PPE, LOTO, hearing conservation, hazard communication and housekeeping procedures.
4. Monitor and provide corrective action as needed in areas of shrinkage loss, line downtime, pattern change duration, cost controls, rework, new part startup cost, sample metrics and customer PPM requirements to ensure problems are identified and corrected as needed.
5. Participate on improvement teams as needed for safety rep teams, Breakthrough Teams, BAPP Steering Team/data collector teams to demonstrate commitment to area improvement and growth and encourage employee engagement.
6. Support (where needed) QS9000/TS16949 policies and procedures and implement corrective actions from audits conducted to help the company maintain its certification status and comply with good business practices. Assist Sr. Production Supervisor, as required, with Layered Process Audits and corrective actions.
7. Communicate regularly with Sr. Production Supervisor those production and employee problems that cannot be easily resolved at the Production Supervisor level to properly escalate these to the appropriate level of management where corrective action can take place.
8. Participate in evaluating associates and identifying areas requiring additional training and provide for that training to ensure continued growth and development of the workforce to meet company goals; follow company disciplinary procedures for behavioral issues that training and coaching fail to improve.
The position provides supervisory leadership, guidance and direction on a daily basis to assigned associates to ensure that company goals are met in terms of safety, quality, productivity and cost. S/he must lead by example in following and enforcing company policies and procedures.
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one to two years of supervisory or lead experience in manufacturing with a general knowledge of glass fabrication processes. Problem-solving, conflict resolution, and listening skills are essential. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to utilize modern management concepts and exhibit good communication skills (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills for ongoing interactions with employees supervised by this position, as well as other team members and management personnel. The incumbent must have experience assigning work and delegating tasks. Team-building skills are essential to coach and develop associates and work with team members from other areas/departments/shifts.
Computer skills required for this position include a working knowledge of Microsoft EXCEL, Word and Outlook.
