Overview

Vitro, North America's largest manufacturer of architectural and automotive glass is currently seeking a Packaging Technologist for their Wareroom Department at its Carlisle, PA location. The primary responsibility of the Packaging Technologist is to provide the necessary technical support and training to the Wareroom department in matters pertaining to procuring and proper utilization of packaging materials used to preserve the glass as it is stored or shipped to the customer.

Responsibilities

This Wareroom Technologist (Packaging) role will work in our Wareroom Department.  This position represents the plant in matters pertaining to the glass packaging materials and the handling of materials. 

  • Clearly communicates specialist requirements for glass packaging, loading and/or shipping as appropriate.  Oversees the maintenance and updating of all packaging instructions for all products at least annually.
  • Reviews and approves or disapproves packaging changes proposed by plant personnel based on the principles set forth by the Corporate Packaging Specifications.
  • Keeps plant personnel informed on packaging material and procedure changes.  Works with vendors in establishing LEAN inventories and sufficient safety stock of packaging supplies. Also seeks out and qualifies new vendors in accordance with corporate policies.
  • Searches for new materials that will improve glass packaging or provide cost reductions while maintaining adequate protection for the glass. Develops packaging improvements through creative thinking, experimentation, and development.
  • Reviews and evaluates packaging techniques to achieve cost reductions and better manpower utilization.
  • Serves as liaison between the plant and the customer on matters relating to packaging.
  • Develops and publishes specifications for incoming containers and their inspection
  • Works with Supervisors and direct department staff to develop training sessions for plant personnel who perform actual prepping/closing of containers.
  • Works with Production Scheduling and the Shipping Department to oversee Warehouse layout and changes as needed to meet production demands.
  • Supervising the process and rework/utility team and Steel Rack Coordinators.

Qualifications

Associates Degree required, preferrably an Engineering or Technical Degree.

Minimum 2 years of Industrial experience.

Incumbent must be able to communicate with all levels of technical and operating personnel.

Must be analytical, perceptive and capable of applying these traits to problem solving situations.

Should be able to demostrate leadership and judgement

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs required
